Understanding Temple Etiquette in Vietnam

Shoulders and knees should be covered at most pagodas, and it is worth carrying a light scarf even in hot weather in case a specific temple enforces this strictly. Remove shoes before stepping onto raised prayer platforms, and keep your voice low inside the main hall.

Walk around statues and altars clockwise if a path is marked, and avoid pointing your feet toward a Buddha image when seated. A small donation is appreciated but never required, and photography is usually fine unless a sign says otherwise.
